Dr. Kristek earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with highest honors at Purdue University in 1999. Her DVM was earned with honors at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. During her time in veterinary school, she pursued special training in exotic animal medicine which included an externship at the veterinary hospital of Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, IL.
For seven years after graduation, Dr. Kristek worked in private practices in both Illinois and Indiana, where she treated dogs, cats, avian species, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals. She then accepted a position at a fully accredited veterinary technology program where she served as a staff veterinarian and faculty instructor for 5 years.
In August of 2016, she joined the excellent staff of Flossmoor Animal Hospital, where she continues to treat pet animals of all species full time. She is a member of the AVMA, the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators.
Her special interests include internal medicine, exotic pet nutrition, behavioral enrichment and low stress handling of dogs and cats. She is also an avid knitter and quilter and she loves walking with her dogs. Her personal pets include parrots, turtles, two dogs and a big, bossy rabbit.
