Regular wellness care will keep your cat healthy for a long lifetime with you and your family. Flossmoor Animal Hospital’s wellness care program for cats includes:

• An annual physical examination
• Dental exam
• Regular vaccinations to combat contagious diseases
• Flea and tick testing and prevention
• Heartworm testing and prevention

For outdoor cats or cats with increased risks, we also recommend Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia testing.

Individualized Wellness Care For Your Cat

We form an individualized wellness care plan for your cat that is based on factors including your cat’s breed, physical condition, lifestyle, and previous immunization history. Vaccines have proven important in preventing serious disease in cats. We design a personalized vaccine protocol for each cat, maximizing protection against the diseases your cat is likely to be exposed to while using the fewest vaccines possible. Our current vaccine recommendations are based on up to date research and the incidence of disease in our area.

Nutritional counseling is an important part of wellness care for your cat. We monitor your cat's weight so that we can recommend modifications in diet or exercise if needed. It’s important to maintain a healthy body weight so your cat can enjoy a long and healthy life.

Vaccinations

Vaccinating your cat keeps your cat healthy by preventing serious diseases. At Flossmoor Animal Hospital, we tailor vaccines for each cat. Cats have different lifestyles and risks of exposure. Each cat is given individual attention and consideration at vaccination time. We take everything into consideration from your pet’s age and lifestyle, including exposure to the outdoors, travel plans, boarding plans to breed, health status, and immune competence. These factors may change over time, so we will review your pet’s vaccination plan at each wellness exam.

Heartworm and Your Cat

Heartworm is an important vaccine for cats, even if they are an indoor cat. A heartworm is a worm that resides in the heart and lungs of infected cats. It is transmitted by mosquitoes that transfer heartworm larva from cat to cat when bitten. These larva then develop into adult worms that over time cause heart disease and respiratory problems in cats. Fortunately, this is a preventable disease, and there are a number of monthly heartworm preventatives available at Flossmoor Animal Hospital. Our staff members will help guide you through the process of selecting the right product that is best suited for your cat.
